FOLLOWING a tip-off from concerned citizens, Zambian authorities have managed to apprehend 21 suspected prohibited immigrants in Makeni.

Police yesterday received information that there were individuals hiding inside a fenced area along the 70-70 road.

Responding to the tip-off at around 13:30 hours, police officers arrived at the scene to discover 21 males, all believed to be prohibited immigrants, sleeping within the fenced property on the grass.

As officers approached, four other individuals suspected to be Zambian nationals fled the area.

“A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of a Toyota Corolla (registration number ABK 9582) believed to be abandoned by the fleeing individuals,” police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale revealed.

“The Prohibited Immigrants, all males, were picked and have been detained in Police custody while the vehicle has been parked at the Police Station.”

Mwale added that the apprehended immigrants are currently detained in police custody while the Department of Immigration has been notified to take further action.

He said the case remains under investigation.
