Illegal miner in Chingola dies after earth collapse at mine

AN illegal miner, 37-year-old Bright Lwando of Kapisha compound has gone to be with the Lord after a collapse at Konkola Copper Mines’ OB16 dumpsite in Chingola yesterday.

Police reports state that a pile of earth fell on Lwando while he was illegally mining with others.

The incident occurred yesterday at 11:00 hours and the matter was reported to Derrick Police post at 14:35 hours by Tyson Mulenga.

On the fateful day, the deceased left home around 09:00 hours to go and conduct illegal mining activities where a pile of earth collapsed on him and partially buried him.

“Thereafter the reporter Tyson Mulenga acting together with others managed to pick up the body of the deceased and rushed him to Nchanga General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

“The reporter further reported the incident to the police post, [officers] physically inspected the body and discovered that the deceased had a cut on the left leg and swollen chest,” stated the police post.

“The body has since been deposited at Nchanga General Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem.”

An inquiry file has been opened and investigations have been instituted.
