EU provides €5.1 million to Zambia for drought relief

THE European Union (EU) has announced a €5.1 million aid package to Zambia to address the drought crisis.

EU Ambassador to Zambia Karolina Stasiak said the funds will target nutrition initiatives, prioritising women and newborns most affected by the drought.

Speaking last night in commemoration of EU Day, Stasiak also praised Zambia’s debt restructuring efforts and pledged the EU’s support for the country’s economic development.

The EU commended Zambia’s role as Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense, and Security in fostering regional peace and stability.

“We commend the Government of Zambia for its strides in negotiating debt restructuring, the European Union will steadfast support the country’s economic stability and development through finances and humanitarian works” she said.

“Zambia has been a prime example of stability in Africa and the European Union commend the role that Zambia has played as the Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defense and Security [particularly] in promoting regional peace and security.” expressed Stasiak.

Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati expressed gratitude for the EU’s longstanding partnership and contribution to Zambia’s development.

“Zambia-EU relations have continued to foster sustainable economic and social development towards government’s agenda of reducing poverty across the country.”

“We commended EU Member States for their resolve and tremendous contribution to the consolidation of global peace, unity and economic and social development.” said Mutati.
