FROM the limelight of the stage to the quiet corridors of a rehabilitation center, Zambian rap icon ‘Muzo AKA Alphonso, whose real name is Musonda Chishimba has navigated a transformative journey of healing and redemption, emerging victorious from the six-month rehabilitation programme.
With the completion of his six-month rehabilitation at Great North Road Academy Rehabilitation Centre, Muzo is now ready to reintegrate back into his family life and potentially, return to the music scene.
The celebrated lyricist, known for his poetic grit and raw storytelling, was warmly released from the facility yesterday in a brief but emotional farewell ceremony attended by staff and family.
Muzo began his transformative rehabilitation journey on November 27, 2024, to combat his ongoing struggle with substance abuse.
The acclaimed rapper made a brave decision to seek professional help, seeking to address the issues that had been plaguing his personal and professional life.


Muzo opened up about his struggles with substance abuse and decided to take proactive steps towards reformation.
His willingness to undergo rehabilitation was a positive sign as fans had been rooting for his successful recovery.
Embraced by his mother’s unconditional love and support, Muzo took the first steps towards a future filled with renewed purpose and sobriety, leaving behind the struggles of substance abuse that had plagued his life.
Speaking shortly after his release, Muzo with a sense of gratitude took a moment to express his appreciation for the doctors who had overseen his rehabilitation.
“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the doctors who helped me during my six-month stay in rehab. It was not an easy journey, but with their guidance and support, I was able to make tremendous strides towards recovery,” he stated.
He acknowledged that he has learned a lot about himself and how to cope with addiction.
“I pray that the people I encounter in my daily life will be understanding and supportive of my recovery journey,” he added.
And his mother shared her gratefulness and relief as she witnessed a significant improvement in her son’s behaviour and attitude following his six-month rehabilitation stint.
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the rehabilitation center and Dr. Rozious Siatwambo for helping Muzo achieve this remarkable transformation.
“I can’t believe how much my son has changed since he entered rehab, he is a completely different person compared to the person he was before,” she asserted.
However, Muzo’s exit from rehabilitation has ignited hope among his fans and the music community, with many anticipating a powerful resurgence not only in his music but also his personal strength and resilience.
There is a growing belief that Muzo’s journey has not only helped him overcome his struggles but has also provided him with a newfound clarity and focus that will enable him to create even more powerful and meaningful music in the future.
It is reported that he wants to go into teaching but the artiste is yet confirm.
