BOBA TV content creator and surviving former PF president Miles Sampa says the man he tried to overthrow from presidency of the PF party, late former president Edgar Lungu appointed and approved him as leader of opposition in parliament.
Sampa is therefore demanding that the speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti announces him as leader of opposition.
Yesterday, PF Members of Parliament walked out of the National Assembly after the speaker refused to play to the gallery by announcing Sampa, the man who once promised Zambia’s capital city residents free WiFi as the representative of the opposition.
In a Facebook post, Sampa argued that delays or refusal by Parliament or the Speaker to recognize him as the current leader of opposition contravenes both the Constitution of Zambia, precedent law (from a Concourt judgement) and Standing Orders.
He accused Mutti of choosing sides between the government and the opposition in the house.
“In October 2023 when the PF removed Hon Brian Mundubile as Leader of Opposition, matters of PF leadership were in court but Parliament obeyed instructions from PF and replaced with Hon Robert Chabinga working 24hrs of said instructions,” he lamented.
“Now in 2025, the PF wrote a letter in the first week of May signed by the PF SG Hon Raphael Nakachinda that the new PF Leader of Oppostion for PF is Miles Sampa, MP. It’s been 8 weeks now, and Parliament has not implemented the change.”
He said a ruling of the Constitution Court of early 2024, states that it’s not the job of parliament or the speaker to question or inquire how the majority opposition party has arrived at the decision.
“For avoidance of doubt, the High Court Judgement of early 2025 removed a STAY that had been given to Morgan Ngona upon being discharged as SG. With that ruling he is not the SG of PF.
“The SG of PF is Hon Nakachinda who for all intents and purposes was appointed by both President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (MHSRIEP) & Miles Bwalya Sampa, MP,” he explained.
“For all intents and purposes Miles Sampa, MP was ‘appointed or approved’ in the role of Opposition Leader by our departed ECL (MHSRIEP).”
