ZAMBIAN football legends Kalusha “Great Kalu” Bwalya and Kenneth “Bubble” Malitoli have been handed major roles in the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ)’s new-look National Team Technical Sub-Committee members, marking a significant return to official football structures for two of the country’s most iconic names.
The two names, once feared by defenders across Africa, now carry the hopes of reshaping the team, not on the pitch, but from the boardroom.
Kalusha, a former FAZ president who led the country’s football governing body to Zambia’s Africa Cup of Nations glory in 2012, will serve as vice chairperson of the sub-committee while Malitoli, alongside seasoned names like Dan Kabwe and Patrick Phiri, will serve as members.
The committee is expected to advise and support national team strategies, selections, and overall performance improvements.
The move is part of a broader reshuffle that has seen new appointments across several FAZ standing committees, with a blend of former players, administrators, referees, and academics joining the structures.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga said the appointments followed wide consultations and were aimed at injecting experience and expertise into football administration.
“Following wider consultations with various football stakeholders, we wish to share the newly constituted committees that will be crucial in steering our football forward,” Kamanga said in the statement.
Also making a return to football structures is former FAZ Technical Director Honour Janza, who has been placed in the Football Development Committee as vice chairperson.
The Referees’ Committee will now be under the leadership of respected former whistle-blowers Gladys Lengwe and Janny Sikazwe as chairperson and vice chairperson respectively, while the Competitions Committee will be led on an interim basis by Mutale Ng’andu.
As part of the same wave of changes, committees covering areas such as player transfers, futsal and beach football, infrastructure development, and football development were also announced, with more appointments expected soon.
