A ‘fake it till you make it’ lifestyle lands three in ‘DEC web’

THREE Lusaka residents have found themselves caught up in the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC)’s web after the law enforcement agency found them in possession of fake US dollar notes.

DEC’s assistant public relations officer Sydney Katongo confirmed that the trio was found in possession of counterfeit notes amounting to US$178,400 estimated to be over K4 million.

Katongo revealed that one of the suspects, Amos Malwindi a businessman from Libala South, 32, was intercepted by DEC officers near the University Teaching Hospital after attempting to flee from the transaction site.

“He was found with $173,300 (one hundred seventy three thousand, three hundred dollars) counterfeit notes.” he said

He added that during a search of the ‘magnet level’ aspirant’s house, officers found $5,100 counterfeit notes.

Two other suspects were, Esnart Phiri aged 53 from Chazanga area and Betty Kanyanga from Makeni area aged 49 where later apprehended near COMESA headquarters.

“All suspects have been arrested, charged and are awaiting court appearance” said Katongo
