Hit-and-run on Great North road leaves one dead

A MAN has been killed in a hit-and-run accident that occurred on the Great North Road yesterday evening.

The victim, identified as Joe Manyona of Mwanangala Village in Chief Naluama’s area, was struck by a northbound vehicle around 19:40 hours on April 29.

According to Southern province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka, Manyona sustained fatal head injuries and fractured legs.

The driver of the vehicle and the type of vehicle involved are unknown at this time.

“lnvolved was an unknown driver of unknown age and unknown residential address, who, driving an unknown type of motor vehicle which was driving from the direction of North to South,” Daka said.

“Damages to the motor vehicle are unknown but likely to have damages to its front left part owing to the impact.”

Daka said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident while Manyona’s body has been transferred to the Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

He disclosed that the deceased sustained fractured legs and had severe head injures which resulted in the instant death.
