A 26 year-old polygamist of Sinazongwe district in Southern Province has failed to endure the pain that came with an illness that crippled him for six months and chose suicide as the only way out.

According to Police reports, Chris Kambani had been unwell since October, 2023 and yesterday he consumed a pesticide after secretly waking up in the morning leaving his wife asleep.

And around 04:00 hours, his wife, Yvonne Mavwele woke up, and to her surprise, she was alone on the bed without her husband, causing her to wake up co-wife to look for him.

The two wives woke up nearby neighbours and the headman who helped them to look for him.

However as the group searched, they came across a freshly opened bottle of pesticide for cotton crops labelled “Spear” just a few meters from the Kambani’s house.

After walking a few meters the group spotted Kambani lying unconscious.

They picked him with efforts to save his life, but unfortunately, he died before they could reach home.

Upon searching the deceased with efforts of knowing the cause of his suicide, they found a suicide note in one of his pockets, in which he declared his assets and net worth, ensuring that there was no chaos for properties at his funeral.

“My body has really troubled my living from October 2023 to date, l have suffered without any improvement. l have left 02 cattle, 08 Goats and K630 in the phone and here is my pin, (clearly indicating the pin number and phone password),” his note stated.

Confirming the incident, Southern Province police commanding officer, Auxensio Daka, said the matter was reported to the police by Oliver Simomole, 39, the neighborhood watch committee chairperson of the area where the incident happened.

“Police visited the scene and established that the deceased died after taking poisonous substance as no physical injury was observed on the body except whitish substance in the mouth and nose.”

“No foul play is suspected. Family advised to bury and mark the grave,” said Daka.
