THE Civil Society Organisation – Scaling Up Nutrition (CSO – SUN) is unimpressed that there has been no significant change in prices of goods and services, despite the continued inflationary decreases.
CSO-SUN country coordinator Mathews Mhuru spoke to #Kalemba on the matter.
Announcing the monthly inflation rate on Thursday, the Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) disclosed that the monthly inflation rate for May 2022 dropped to 10.2 per cent from last month’s 11.5 per cent.
Mhuru explained that the biggest disappointment is that the decrease in the inflation is rate is not translating into the lower cost of food and other basic needs so as to improve people’s standard of living.
He noted that as things stand, the reduced inflation rate does not mean anything to the majority poor Zambians who would expect the prices of commodities to reduce.
