NOVEMBER, 2021 will go down in the lives of many people in Lusaka as perhaps the most crime-ridden month post the 12 August, 2021 General Elections in which armed robbers had a picnic in the nation’s capital.
The latest on the gruesome casualty list is a man of Chainda in Lusaka, Tasmania Ng’andu, 38, who was shot twice by robbers as he tried to enter his yard at about 23 00 hours on the eve of last day of November, 2021. The criminals not only killed him but also robbed him of money and his car which they ransacked and later dumped in Mtendere East as a wreck. He remains in UTH mortuary.
However, the criminals are also missing three members of their ranks after police trailed and decimated them with hails of bullets after they attempted to shoot the officers in Chunga Township of Lusaka. Two of the robbers managed to escape with their limbs intact given a chance by fate to reconsider their criminal paths.
Earlier on 21 November, 2021, Masood Mussa aged 37 also a marketing Manager at Crown Milling was trailed and robbed at gunpoint on Mopani Road in Kamwala’s Madras area. Police in the pursuit of the criminals shot a pharmacist who is in UTH under guard on suspicion that his vehicle was used in the robbery.
But perhaps the most bizarre robbery was on 1 November, 2021 when PF insider and miller Goodward Mulubwa, 61 who was shot 22 times by robbers at his Twin Palm residence but he survived to tell-the-tale. The criminals made away with Fifty Thousand Kwacha (K50, 000) and Three Hundred United States Dollars ($300).
And as the festive season nears when robberies are usually on the increase, Police spokesperson Rae Hammonga has sounded the warning that they will not hesitate to violently send the criminals to an impromptu meeting with their God in defence of members of the public.
