Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed that the incident was reported at Chipata Central Police Station yesterday around 09:40 hours by Christine Tembo, 43, who reported on behalf of her 14-year-old daughter, Ketia Tembo.
According to police, Christine had left her home on a business trip barely a week ago, leaving behind her daughter, son and a male business partner identified as Gerrard Kwenda Chithonje, who had been staying at her home for two weeks.
During her absence, the suspect allegedly began proposing love to the young girl who later accepted his proposal and was lured in doing bedroom gymnastics for three days continously at different time intervals in her mother’s bedroom.
“The assaults occurred from 8th to 11th June, mostly in the afternoon around 15:00 hours and at night around 22:00 hours,” Mweemba said.
Upon returning from her business trip, Christine noticed suspicious white stains on her bedsheets while spreading the bed, prompting her to question her daughter.
Ketia revealed that she had been sexually abused by Chithonje over a period of three days.
After hearing the full account, Christine contacted a neighbourhood watch member to intervene.
However, before any action could be taken, the suspect fled the scene, leaving behind his National Registration Card, voter’s card, and some clothes.
A medical form was issued and the victim was referred to Chipata Central Hospital for examination.
Police have since launched a manhunt in coordination with the neighbourhood watch to apprehend the suspect.
“We are actively pursuing the suspect and urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward,” said Mweemba.
