LUMEZI Town Council in Zambia is preparing to modernize its procurement system by transitioning from manual processes to an electronic government procurement (e-GP) system.

Council chairperson Oliver Mwale announced the upcoming shift during an orientation meeting with local suppliers and contractors, emphasizing the importance of training to ensure a smooth transition.

The new e-GP system is expected to simplify the procurement process, creating a more level playing field for local businesses.

This addresses concerns raised by suppliers and contractors regarding limitations of the existing manual system.

Mwale highlighted the urgency of adopting digital technologies.

“The council is aware that all public institutions must migrate to e-GP by April. This system is an answer to the call for a more efficient and transparent procurement process,” Mwale said.

The increased Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocation for Lumezi this year is (K30.6 million from K1.6 million ) further underscores the need for a streamlined procurement system.
