ABOUT 75 percent of girls have been sexually abused countrywide for the second quarter of 2022.
According to Police the country recorded 771 Sexual offenses representing 13.8% of all the reported cases compared to 804 cases reported in 2021indicating a decrease by 33 cases translating to 4.1%.
Out of the 771 cases, 574 victims were girls translating to 74.4%, 177 victims were women translating to 23%, 17 victims were boys translating to 2.2%, whilst three victims were men translating to 0.4%.
A total of 526 cases were recorded under Child defilement translating to 68.2% of which 524 were girls representing 99.6% and two boys translating to 0.4%.
in a statement released by Zambia Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, Lusaka Province recorded the highest number of child defilement with 148 cases country wide.
Eastern Province recorded 86, Central Province had 63, Southern Province 58 Copperbelt recorded 49 cases, North-Western Province 37, Western province 29 , Mchinga Province 27, Northern 22 and Luapula Province recorded 7 representing.
Hamoonga disclosed that Airport and Tazara Division recorded zero cases.
He added that 111 rape cases were reported while 17 attempted rape cases were recorded countrywide.
Hamoonga stated that 59 cases of indecent Assault were registered of which 29 victims were women, 27 girls and three boys.
“16 cases of incest were recorded in which 12 victims were girls; three were women and one boy,” Hamoonga added.
