THE REPUBLICAN Progressive Party (RPP) has challenged Patriotic Front faction secretary general Raphael Nakacinda to provide proof over his claims that former president Edgar Lungu was poisoned.

RPP National Spokesperson Micheal Nyirongo described Nakacinda’s remarks as reckless and capable of causing unnecessary alarm among citizens.

Nakacinda recently declared that he was not afraid of being arrested for speaking for Edgar Lungu.

Nyirongo said there is a big difference between freedom of speech and spreading unproven conspiracy theories.

He said Zambia’s democracy thrives on constructive criticism but not baseless claims that threaten public confidence and disturb national peace.

Nyirongo has since urged law enforcement to summon Nakacinda and demand evidence for his serious allegations, insisting that such dangerous statements should not be left hanging.

“If Mr. Nakacinda possesses information regarding the alleged poisoning, he has a duty to present it to the relevant authorities so that the law can take its course,” Nyirongo said in a statement.

He said the UPND government has never arrested anyone for offering genuine checks and balances but warned that political propaganda dressed as concern could have long-term consequences if left unchecked.
