Lungu’s funeral isn’t for family only, it’s for all Zambians – Haimbe

FOREIGN Affairs Minister Mulambo Haimbe says late former president Edgar Lungu’s funeral does not only belong to his family but to all Zambians.

Speaking at Belvedere Lodge after paying respect to Lungu this afternoon, Haimbe said the funeral belongs to the whole country because Lungu represented all Zambians when he was president.

He said it was important for the family and Zambians themselves, to respect and appreciate the fact that they are all key stakeholders in the matter.

“The bereaved family might make a demand to put forward his wishes and requests but I think this matter, is a matter for all of us as a people, all of us as Zambians, because the late former president was representing all of us and now the person representing all of us in life is the current President,” said Haimbe.

“So as Zambians, of course, we look at it from that perspective, much as we would respect that the bereaved family will have its views, we need to also understand and appreciate as all that as Zambians we are also stakeholders.”

He believed that Zambians want to give the late former president a befitting send off.

“I’m sure all of us would want to give our former late President a befitting send off. That is what we must work towards achieving that,” stated Haimbe.
