Lungu shall be remembered for handing over power to Hichilema peacefully – Tambatamba

LABOUR and Social Security minister Brenda Tambatamba says late former president Edgar Lungu shall be remembered for how he peacefully handed over power to President Hakainde Hichilema.

Tambatamba stated that Lungu being able to lead the nation in a peaceful transition of power is something that should also be acknowledged as a contribution to the country’s well being.

“In peace, we transitioned from him (Edgar Lungu) to the seventh republican President. For that transition, we want to acknowledge his contribution,” said Tambatamba.

She added that government beheld the former president as the father of the nation, having lost all the other former presidents before him.

The minister further said Lungu contributed to the country’s development as his works in different parts of the country speak for him.

She urged Zambians to mourn the former president in peace and let government play its role.

“We were beholding him as our father of the nation, after losing all the former presidents, we had him for support. Today we lose him, it is a sad day for Zambia, I appeal to Zambians to mourn him in peace,” said Tambatamba.

The Minister said this in an interview after she signed the Book of Condolence at Belvedere Lodge in Lusaka yesterday.
