Just one month after turning his family’s tears of joy into a celebration of achievement, 27-year-old Eric Siyumba has now left them drowning in tears of grief after he was found murdered with a deep cut to his head in the Petroda area along Mumbwa Road.
Eric, who graduated last month from the University of Zambia as a medical doctor, went out on Saturday evening to get something from a nearby shop in Garden House area where he stayed with his elder brother but never returned.
His family’s desperate search came to a devastating end when they found his lifeless body at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary on the morning of Sunday, June 29.
His body had been discovered earlier by police in a bushy area near Petroda Filling Station, bearing a deep gash on his head, a chilling sign that his life was taken violently.
Investigations have since been launched, but no arrests have been made.

Until his tragic end, Eric was staying with his elder brother, in Garden House on Mumbwa Road where the two had been preparing for the next chapter of Eric’s life, a chapter that was meant to start with a stethoscope, not a coffin.
Now, instead of discussing job postings, the family is discussing burial arrangements.
Speaking to Kalemba in a voice heavy with heartbreak, his brother Ephraim said the pain is beyond words, especially considering that Eric had just completed a long, difficult seven-year academic journey.
“It’s very painful as it has come just after completing his 7-year study, like death was waiting for him to graduate… He was a God-fearing person and very intelligent,” Ephraim told Kalemba.
While the police continue their investigations, Eric’s family is left clinging to memories, of a son, a brother, a healer in the making, whose light was snuffed out just when it started to shine the brightest.
