Speaking on Diamond TV’s “COSTA” programme, Haimbe warned that such discussions could exacerbate societal tensions during a period of national mourning.

He stressed the importance of focusing on collective grief rather than debating government support for the former head of state.

“In moments like these when our nation is grieving, we must remember that our humanity is what truly defines us,” Haimbe stated.

“If we allow ourselves to be divided, we risk sacrificing our shared humanity and the principles that have long sustained us as a nation.”

The minister called on Zambians to set aside political differences and unite in solidarity, emphasising togetherness over division.

He underlined the need to focus on shared values and traditions that bind the nation.

Haimbe further implored citizens to exercise patience, allowing outstanding questions regarding Lungu’s alleged medical assistance to unfold at an appropriate time.

He said people should focus on celebrating the late president’s life and leadership and setting a respectful precedent for handling the demise of former presidents.

Responding to concerns about the funeral venue, Haimbe clarified that utilising a lodge for a state funeral is not unprecedented and aligns with national norms and traditions.

He explained that a designated space is crucial for people to gather, mourn, and offer condolences to the family and the nation, ensuring broad participation regardless of political affiliation.
