KAUNDA Square Clinic will no longer rely on candlelight for emergency deliveries, and Kalingalinga Police Post will not have to write reports in the dark, after the Lusaka City Council (LCC) flipped the switch on solar energy at both public facilities.

With a combined K570,796.93 put to work, the Council installed a 10KV solar system at Kaunda Square Clinic worth over K300,000, and a 5KV system at Kalingalinga Police Post costing over K197,000, to keep services running even when ZESCO decides to nap.
According to LCC the initiative, funded by the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is part of government’s efforts to keep essential services powered up.
Munali Member of Parliament, Mike Mposha, made it clear that this is just the beginning of a full-on solar revolution in the constituency, vowing that all public service institutions in Munali will soon be plugged into the sun, effectively sending ZESCO’s blackouts packing.
“The installation of solar systems at Kaunda Square Clinic and Kalingalinga Police Post is part of the government’s efforts to ensure uninterrupted service delivery,” Mposha said.
The clinic can now store vaccines without fear of spoilage and perform urgent procedures after sunset, while the police post can keep its lights and surveillance equipment running 24/7.
The local authority has since urged the public to protect the solar systems from vandals and thieves who have a habit of destroying public properties.
