The Head of State will be inaugurating the US$100 million Chisamba 100 megawatts Solar Plant, a project, during its construction created 1300 jobs, the majority being locals.

This project is foundational to President Hichilema’s 1,000MW solar onboarding target, designed to diversify the national electricity mix and bolster electricity security.

It was constructed in a benchmark time of ten months and has set the pace for other projects under the President’s solar explosion agenda.

“The plant utilises 180,356 bifacial panels to generate clean electricity for 30,000 to 50,000 Zambian homes annually.”

“It is a significant step towards sustainable development, projected to offset 120,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year,” Zesco stated.

“During construction, the project stood as a powerful engine for local employment, creating about 1,300 jobs, the vast majority of which were filled by local workers, thereby meeting the 30 percent local content requirement under the Zambia Development Agency Act.”

The utility said the commissioning event will feature a keynote address by President Hichilema, a tour of the facility, and a showcase of the project’s community impact.
