A LUSAKA granny will have ample time to narrate folktales of her adventurous life to cellmates after police arrested her for assaulting a 2-year-old boy.

74-year-old Rhoda Munshini, a resident of Old Kanyama compound, allegedly whipped the child with a belt and a cooking stick, causing swelling to his buttocks.

According to Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale the incident occurred on Tuesday around 05:00 hours.

“Police investigations revealed that the child was whipped because he was crying too much and that the Land Lady had been complaining that the child was disturbing people in the neighbourhood as a result of his unexplained crying,” Mwale added.

It is reported that the suspect requested the mother to give her the child while claiming that she just wanted to scare him so that he stops crying.

However, the old woman had a different plan all together as she allegedly unleashed the reason why she was known as C5, her temper flared in silence like a dynamite but the result was the explosion of tears and loud cries from the toddler.

Munshini took the child inside her house and started whipping him.

“When the 35-year-old mother heard her child crying uncontrollably,” Mwale narrated. “She forced her way into the Land Lady’s house and grabbed back her child.”

The mother reported the matter to the police after noticing that her child had injuries leading to the arrest of the granny.

Munshini is facing assault charges while the child was treated at Kanyama Level One Hospital and is in a stable condition.
