LCC on watch for traders using chemicals for meat preservation amidst load shedding

PEOPLE should watch where they buy meat to maintain their health as there has been reports that some traders in Lusaka have resorted to using undisclosed chemicals to preserve their meat in butcheries amidst prolonged power outages.

Lusaka City Council public relations manager Chola assured the public of ongoing investigations into these reports.

Mwamba said media reports have raised concerns regarding the potential threat to consumer safety and the quality of meat in Lusaka.

“We have received some reports from members of the public alleging that some butcheries in Lusaka are using an unauthorised chemical to preserve their meat product,” revealed Mwamba.

“This concern is very much alarming but we have sent our public health practitioners on the ground.”

She warned that those found wanting will be brought to book as it is stipulated.

Mwamba advised the general public to be vigilant as they buy any meat products.
