MINISTER of Health Sylvia Masebo has, challenged University of Lusaka graduates to become active participants in solving national and global issues.

Motor-board hats flew in the air as cheers of ‘hip hip hooray’ by proud mothers, fathers and guardians echoed in the school hall of the University of Lusaka.

Tears of joy washed the make-up off the faces of beautiful UNILUS ladies and hugs of congratulations went all round as students finally said good bye to student life and hello to real life.

The University of Lusaka (UNILUS) celebrated its 15th graduation ceremony yesterday at the Silverest campus, with 1,231 graduates crossing the stage.

The ceremony’s theme, “Fostering Adaptive Transformation and Resilience,” served as a call to action for graduates to navigate an ever-changing world.

“Let the theme…guide you as you step out and make a meaningful impact,” Masebo said, emphasising their potential to address pressing concerns.

Masebo, highlighting government support programmes, encouraged graduates to view challenges as opportunities for innovation.

“Life’s experiences have taught us that adversity builds resilience,” she remarked, citing the recent pandemic’s role in accelerating e-learning adoption.

University Chancellor Prof. Pinalo Chifwanakeni echoed the call for adaptability, urging graduates to address climate change through sustainable solutions.

“We are living in an era…where the world is engaged in tackling it by educating future leaders,” he said, emphasising their role in critical thinking and developing solutions for a sustainable future.

“You equally have been equipped to critically reflect upon the underlying reasons behind global challenges and come up with solutions leading to sustainable development.”

The ceremony concluded with graduates embarking on their journeys, equipped with knowledge and a call to become architects of a resilient tomorrow.
