HEAVY rains have brought traffic to a standstill on the vital Chama-Lundazi Road, leaving residents stranded on either side of the submerged Lunzi Bridge.
Motorists and pedestrians alike found themselves waiting in vain, with the bridge resembling a forgotten island amidst the floodwaters.
Mourie Nkhata, a resident caught on the wrong side of the bridge, expressed concern about debris blocking the water flow and potentially compromising the bridge’s structure.
She urged authorities to take swift action to clear the blockage.
Masauso Ngoma, another stranded resident, described the road as completely impassable, with no hope of crossing until the water subsides.
Chama District Commissioner, Yobe Goma, advised caution, urging residents to wait for the water levels to recede before attempting to cross the bridge.
The full extent of the damage remains unknown until the floodwaters recede.
