Upnd warns its members against issuing negative statements regarding Lungu’s death

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) has warned its members against making derogatory remarks about the former late president Edgar Lungu.

Party Secretary General, Batuke Imenda called upon its members to refrain from issuing negative statements but instead, maintain dignity and respect for the departed leader.

He told his party members to recognise that this is a time of mourning for the whole country.

Imenda expressed concern through a statement that certain members were making comments without seeking approval from the UPND secretariat.

Imenda stated that it is crucial that all communication from the party is carefully cleared to ensure that it aligns with party principles and is respectful of the situation.

“From this point forward, all statements and information regarding the mourning period for the former President will be officially released only from the office of the Secretary General, who is the chief executive officer of the party.”

“This will ensure that all communication is in accordance with the principles and guidelines of the UPND,” he stated.

Imenda said UPND members should leave the communication of any information about Lungu’s funeral to the Government spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa and Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa.

Imenda added that as everyone grieves together as a nation, there is need to conduct oneself with decorum, emphasising peace and unity.

“It is essential that our actions and words reflect the solemnity of this moment and that we demonstrate respect and compassion for those who are mourning,” said Imenda.
