PATRIOTIC Front (PF) faction says the scuffles shaking the PF boat since the death of former president Edgar Lungu are a sign that even in death, the man still holds serious political weight.
Speaking at the PF Kitwe district office after attending the funeral of former Kwacha MP Boniface Mutale yesterday, Nakacinda revealed that the internal succession battles and “ukutintana” within the party were proof of Lungu’s unmatched influence, even from his coffin.
“Even in his death, president Edgar Lungu seems to have power, hence ‘ukutintana’ (the scuffles) that have been there since he died,” Nakacinda told a group of PF loyalists.
Meanwhile, the outspoken SG, took off the gloves and addressed the rising tension over the party’s top seat, urging those interested to declare their intentions openly rather than “cooking schemes behind the backs of the leadership.”
He has warned ambitious members eyeing the party’s presidency to stop playing hide and seek politics and instead follow the rightful procedure laid down by the party.
Nakacinda, who is one of the senior figures at the centre of the PF’s ongoing leadership tug-of-war, urged party members to stay united and respect the legacy of the late former president instead of tearing each other apart.
He reminded party members that it was not a crime to want to lead, but such ambitions should not come at the cost of peace and unity in the already shaken boat.
“Vying for a position is not a sin, but ambitions should not be used to destroy the party,” Nakacinda said, warning that those fanning confusion would not succeed.
