Hichilema advocates for peaceful Kuomboka Ceremony amidst political tensions

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has issued a call for a peaceful Kuomboka ceremony, urging the people of Zambia to prioritize harmony and cultural celebration during the annual event.

Addressing citizens in Mongu upon his arrival in the Western Province yesterday , President Hichilema emphasised the need for political parties to refrain from politicising the ceremony and inciting violence.

He urged politicians to set aside partisan agendas and ensure a tranquil environment for the festivities that will be happening today.

“Lets have a peaceful Koumboka. I want to ask my colleagues in the politics, this is not the time for politics. Do not start a fight here,” President Hichilema urged.

Highlighting the significance of culture and heritage, President Hichilema underscored his reverence for traditional leaders, acknowledging their role as guardians of Zambia’s rich heritage.

“I have come here, I have been coming for kuomboka for over thirty years. We respect culture, heritage, we respect the Litunga, we respect Mwine Lubemba and all indunas because these are the custodians of culture and heritage.” he said.

President Hichilema reiterated his longstanding commitment to the Kuomboka tradition, emphasising the importance of preserving cultural practices for future generations.

In his plea to traditional leaders, President Hichilema emphasised the importance of fostering unity among diverse communities, recognising the need to accommodate differing perspectives and attitudes.

He stressed the imperative of maintaining peace and stability to facilitate national development, calling for collective efforts to create a conducive environment for progress.

President Hichilema reaffirmed his vision for a united, just, and equitable Zambia that respects the rights of all citizens, underscoring the importance of inclusivity and fairness in the nation’s journey towards prosperity.

“Traditional leaders need to know that they look after all the people who are unique and diverse, and we must maintain peace and stability within the country for development. This is what we want.”

“We want a united Zambia, a fair Zambia, a zambia which is equitable, zambia which respects all the citizens,” remarked President Hichilema.
