MONGU mayor Nyambe Muyumbana has announced that the Mongu City Council has voted unanimously to admit President Hakainde Hichilema as a freeman of the Mongu Municipality.

The freeman status is simply an honorary recognition of an individual who has provided significant service or made great contribution to the development of a city or community.

In a statement released yesterday, Muyumbana explained that the decision was made under the Local Government Act, which allows councils to honor individuals who have provided significant service to the city.

Council members reportedly praised President Hichilema’s leadership and his positive impact on the Mongu district.

“The councillors voted unanimously, citing the good leadership President Hakainde Hichilema has provided, which has positively impacted Mongu district,” said Muyumbana.
