GOVERNMENT says it has never registered any Freemasonry group in Zambia and has no knowledge of any of their activities.

The clarification was made in the National Assembly by Vice President Mutale Nalumango this morning, in response to a question raised by Nakonde Member of Parliament Luka Simumba, who asked what benefits the country had gained from hosting what he claimed to be the first ever Masonic conference in Zambia.
“Zambians witnessed the first ever Masonic conference approved by your government,” claimed Simumba during the Vice President’s Question Time.
“What are some of the benefits of that Masonic conference to the Zambian people?”
In response, Nalumango seemed baffled by the claim and denied ever allowing such a group in the country.
“To the best of our knowledge, there has been no such Masonic conference approved by this government,” she said.
“We are not aware of any Freemasonry group that has been registered under the UPND government. We do not know of any such group. If such a meeting did take place in this country, I would like to know where it was held and who attended it,” she said.
She added: “perhaps…maybe the honourable himself is a member. I hear it is a secret society. But now it seems it is becoming public, maybe political. Otherwise, it will not work,” she stated.
Her remarks come days after reports of a Freemason linked charitable event in Chilanga District, where the group handed over a newly constructed classroom to the Human Service Trust (HST) School in Namalombe area as well as a photo that circulated online of conference by the same group in Livingstone.
