Robbery of items worth K450 lands Ndola duo 15 years hard labour

TWO men from Ndola have been sentenced to 15 years with hard labour at a correctional facility for the violent robbery of items valued at K450.

Benson Katongo and Mike Mukuka appeared before Ndola High Court Judge Daniel Musonda, where they were convicted of the August 21, 2024, incident.

The court heard that on the night of the robbery, Katongo and Mukuka attacked Musonda Malama in Chipulukusu.

Malama testified that he was walking home and chatting with the duo when they suddenly turned on him at a railway crossing.

They violently snatched his cell phone, a bag containing two exercise books, and his driver’s license, assaulting him in the process.

Malama, with the assistance of passersby, managed to apprehend one of the attackers, who was then taken to Mapalo police post.

The apprehended suspect subsequently led officers to his accomplice, Mukuka.

In delivering judgment, judge Musonda stated
there was sufficient evidence because the plaintiff managed to apprehend the accused himself and that the first accused led police officers to arrest his accomplice.

In their mitigation, Katongo and Mukuka expressed remorse for their actions and requested lenience, stating they had reflected on their conduct during their time in detention.
