POLICE in Lusaka have apprehended a couple following the devastating sudden death of their six-month-old daughter.

The incident occurred on June 6, 2025 at around 06:00 hours when she was found lifeless on the bed.

According to reports, Natasha Mwika, a 22-year-old mother of the deceased went to bed on the night of June 5, 2025 with her two twin infants beside her own mattress on the floor.

Hamoonga said, despite the father’s efforts, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival at the said clinic.

He added that upon examination of the child’s body, there were no visible signs of injury or trauma however, the body was deposited to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary pending postmortem examination to determine the actual cause of the death.

“In light of the ongoing investigation into the infant’s death, both parents have been detained as part of standard procedure. An inquiry file has been officially opened to ensure that a thorough and comprehensive investigation is carried out,” he further added.
