A 13 year old mother’s struggle to provide for her two-month-old baby in Monze has ended violently after the child was injured by her kachasu customer who she confronted as he attempted to flee without paying for his drink.
According to Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka, the baby sustained a swollen head after being struck by a stone by the Kachasu drunkard.
The young mother, whose name is being withheld, was reportedly selling kachasu at her mother’s residence in Zambia Compound.
This incident occurred last evening, around 18:00 hours, when the customer who had consumed seven litres of kachasu, owing K65, attempted to leave without paying.
When confronted, he told the young mother to follow him to his home in Mainza Chona Compound to get his money.
“As they were walking towards his residence, the suspect picked up a stone and threw it at the mother, but it hit the baby on the head instead,” Daka stated.
Following the act, the suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident.
The infant was later issued a medical report form for the injury sustained.
Daka said the police have opened a docket, and investigations into the matter are ongoing but no arrest has been made yet.
