It is believed that 28-year-old Thandiwe Mwale had reportedly been accumulating funds from various individuals under the guise of saving their money for interest.

The incident happened on July 8, 2025 in Kamwala south.

Police assistant public relations officer Chipo Kaitisha confirmed that Mwale’s deceitful borrowing practices and mounting debts had finally reached a breaking point.

Kaitisha revealed that Mwale’s passing is also attributed to the devastating consequences of her inability to repay her loans without assistance.

She explained that in the past whenever Mwale failed to repay her loans, her husband would step in and settle her debts.

But this time, when she again failed to repay, no one came to her aid hence this, combined with the mounting pressure and harassment from her creditors, appears to have left her feeling overwhelmed and depressed.

On July 7, 2025 at around 10:00 hours, Mwale left her home and checked into a local lodge where she was later discovered dead.

The next day, on July 8, 2025, a housekeeper at the lodge where Mwale had been staying grew concerned when she noticed that one of the rooms was still locked beyond the expected checkout time.

This prompted the housekeeper to alert the police who responded quickly and visited the scene.

“Police officers who visited the scene discovered that the room was locked from inside. Upon forcing entry, they discovered three empty bottles of insecticide (Doom), two beer bottles, and a takeaway container containing chicken and chips next to the bed,” Kaitisha disclosed.

“The body of the deceased was later identified by her husband.”

Kaitisha added that the deceased’s body was then transported to the University Teaching Hospital, where a postmortem examination was conducted.

Following the procedure, burial arrangements were completed.
