Kabwe Rangers driver dies, players injured in Serenje road accident

A DRIVER of Kabwe Rangers Football Club has lost his life following a road traffic accident yesterday as the team was returning from Serenje which left three players, the coach and club secretary nursing injuries.

According to FAZ Central Province chairperson Chisanga Pule, who rushed to the scene alongside General Secretary Maxwell Shaba, the deceased, Sam Lungu, had been the trusted driver of the team and part of the Kabwe Rangers family.

Pule said the injured include players Christopher Musakanya, Given Sichamba, John Kombe, coach Lewis Nkandu and club secretary Karen Namukoko.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Lungu. He was not just a driver but part of the Kabwe Rangers family. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family and pray for God’s strength during this difficult time,” Pule said.

Pule further added that the injured were rushed to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital where he and Shaba checked on their condition.

“We wish our injured players, coach, and secretary a quick recovery. Football is about unity, and in this moment we stand together as a family,” he said.

Police are yet to issue a detailed statement on the cause of the accident.

The tragedy has cast a dark shadow over Kabwe Rangers’ campaign, with the club now focusing on the recovery of its members while mourning the loss of a man who had been entrusted with their safe travel across the province.
