A LUANO farmer showed unexpected bravery after fighting back against armed robbers who burst into his home at midnight and sprayed him in the eyes with a pepper spray before stealing cash and a mobile phone.
According to Central Province police commanding officer Lemekani Chirwa, 31-year-old Daniel Kause of Kasonka Area in Luano District was asleep with his wife on the night of Tuesday when two men dressed in blue work suits stormed his house around midnight.
The intruders, who were armed with a firearm, pointed the weapon at Kause and demanded money.
However, when he told them he had no money and was as broke as they were, one of the attackers sprayed a pepper spray into his eyes, leaving him in pain.
But instead of surrendering completely, Kause pushed the criminal holding the firearm and fled from the house while one of the robbers chased after him.
The other suspect remained inside, threatening his wife and children.
Kause managed to reach neighbours and returned with them, only to find that the robbers had already vanished.
A check of the house revealed that K5,000 cash and a black Tecno phone worth K250 had been stolen.
“Police visited the scene and observed evidence of forced entry through the door which had its locking system damaged,” Chirwa told #Kalemba.
No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing.
