POLICE in Southern Province are appealing to residents to maintain peace and order while mourning former president Edgar Lungu.
Southern Province police commanding officer, Auxensio Daka, urged citizens to express their grief peacefully and to adhere to official mourning protocols.
Daka emphasised the importance of avoiding unauthorised gatherings, citing potential safety and security risks.
“Gatherings in undesignated areas may lead to disruptions or cause potential safety and security issues,” Daka stated.
“We urge the public to avoid such gatherings and instead focus on memorialising the late President in the designated areas, where appropriate measures have been taken to ensure the safety and order of all attendees.”
He further advised against assembling in undesignated areas, warning that such congregations could lead to disruptions or pose security concerns.
