Chama fisherman fights off crocodile to survive attack

THE quiet waters of the Luangwa River was shattered as a 54 year old fisherman from Fundi Village in Chama came face to face with death and fortunately came out on top.

It was around 09:00 hours yesterday morning, as Blaywell Sakala focused on equalling Peters catch of fish, as told in the bible when he suddenly found himself locked in a desperate struggle for survival with a crocodile.

The large reptile with its powerful jaws attacked Sakala looking to make a meal out of him.

But Sakala was not ready to go down the path of ancestors as he fought with all his might and strength to see another sunrise and sunset.

Most would have succumbed to such a brutal attack, due to fear. Instead of giving in, Sakala fought back until the crocodile gave up, but not without living him injured.

Idesi Ng’uni, attending to Sakala at Kalasa Health Post, shared that the fisherman was alone when the incident happened.

It was revealed that Sakala sustained serious cuts to his left leg and further injuries to his right.

Medical personnel describe the survivor’s condition as stable.
