THE Zambia Police Service has moved to dispel rumors circulating on social media alleging a student nurse at Levy Mwanawasa Hospital killed a mental patient.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, issued a statement following a social media frenzy claiming a student nurse struck a mental patient with a brick after the patient accidentally injured the nurse’s hand.
“Thorough investigation and follow up by police indicate that such an incident as purported on social media did not occur at the hospital,” Hamoonga stated. “There is no evidence to support this claim.”
Hamoonga urged the public and media outlets to verify information before dissemination.
“We understand the importance of accurate reporting and addressing public concerns promptly,” he said.
Authorities however encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
“We appreciate the cooperation of the public and media in this matter,” added Hamoonga “The Zambia Police Service will continue to serve with integrity and professionalism.”
