Army band loses melodious lead singer

THE popular Zambia Army-sponsored Green Buffaloes Pop Band has lost its melodious lead singer and composer Corporal Mercy Phiri who died aged 39 last Saturday.

Corporal Phiri comes two weeks after celebrating her birthday.

She died at Maina Soko Hospital in Lusaka following an illness bringing her 12-year musical involvement with the military band to an end.

During her 12 years of service, she positively contributed to the band through her musical talent, as she presented as a lead singer and music composer for the band.

Her love for her work saw her collaborating with various local artists in both recorded and live artist.

As her death has left a big gap in the defense, she also leaves behind a mourning husband.

On behalf of other officers, soldiers and Civilian Staff, Zambia Army Commander, Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi conveyed a message of condolences to the family and friends of the late Coporal Phiri.

Her funeral gathering is currently being held in Mahopo along Shantumbu road in Lusaka.
