  1. PARAMOUNT Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people has returned from Mongu where he went for the Kuomboka traditional ceremony at the home of the Lozi people last weekend, calling the experience “fantastic” and urging for closer cultural exchange.

Chitimukulu, also known Mwinelubemba Chitimukulu Kanyanta-Manga II led a delegation to Mongu last week, where they were warmly received by the Lozi community.

The visit included a ceremonial voyage on the Nalikwanda river with the Lozi King, the Litunga of Barotseland Lubosi Imwiko II, a gesture symbolising the longstanding ties between the two groups.

Speaking upon his return to Mungwi, Chitimukulu emphasised the significance of the Bemba-Lozi cousinship, describing it as real.

He expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for facilitating the transportation arrangements, further solidifying the bond between the two regions.

The visit not only fostered a deepening of cultural understanding but also paved the way for enhanced relations between the Bemba and Lozi people.

“They showered us with love and respect just like you always do here. They fed us and treated us like family,” stated Mwine Lubemba.

Chitimukulu noted the warmth and hospitality extended to him and his delegation, indicating a positive trajectory in intercultural relations.

“The Lozi people are our friends. We love and respect each other and I’m sure that they will now stop calling us masholi,” he jokingly stated.

“They are free to visit us here in Mungwi so that we can strengthen the bond of friendships and respect.”
