RESIDENTS of Mushindamo District are about to say Good bye to the hardships of self-medication or endure long, journeys into the neighboring Congo DRC in search of healthcare services.

This is after commemorating the official opening and handover of the rehabilitated Kashiba Rural Health Center in Musaka Ward.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of dignitaries including North-Western Province Minister Robert Lihefu, Solwezi East Constituency Member of Parliament Alex Katakwe, and other local government officials as well as Mushindamo District Town Council Chairperson Peter Ilunga.

The renovated health center boasts state-of-the-art equipment, two staff houses, and a solar-powered borehole, ensuring a reliable energy source.

Previously, residents of Musaka Ward faced significant challenges in accessing healthcare.

“Gone are the days when the good people of Musaka ward will have to endure the hardships of self-medication or endure long, arduous journeys into the neighboring Congo DRC in search of healthcare services,” Ilunga declared.

“The period of 5 months which was invested in this project completion, has culminated in a facility that will serve as a lifeline for our mothers, children, and the elderly.”

The opening of the health center coincides with the introduction of bottom-up decentralization, empowering local communities to prioritise their needs through the increased Constituency Development Fund allocation.

“This moment also marks a historic shift in Zambian politics with the introduction of bottom-up decentralization leadership,” Ilunga stated.

The Mushindamo District Town Council pledged to safeguard the health center and ensure its continued operation.

“Let us not only safeguard this health center but also nurture the many developmental projects on the horizon,” Ilunga said.
