THREE male students at Mulungushi University in Kabwe, Central Province, have been diagnosed with cholera.
The students fell ill over the weekend while at their hostels and were hospitalised at Kabwe General Hospital.
The hospital performed some tests on the three students which confirmed that indeed, the young men had Cholera
The three cases are among the 19 Cholera cases that the country has recorded in the past 24 hours.
Parents of the students suspect the university’s poor water sanitation is to blame for the outbreak.
Two of the parents who are currently at the bed side of their son told Kalemba suspected reason poor sanitation at the school could be the reason behind their child’s sickness.
“This is not the first time that the hospital is receiving learners from the institution with Cholera symptoms that are being kept in the isolation room,” they claimed.
“And for us as parents, this situation is worrying because Cholera is deadly.”
A mother to one of the sick alleged that If one was to go to the institution they would find that they are “many more students who are sick.”
The two mothers also further revealed that one of the sick patients was discharged early this morning after he showed signs of improvement.
According to the Ministry of health, the Cholera cases recorded since the outbreak last October stand at 22, 890 as of today
