Two pupils die from Ben Bella Road accident

POLICE have confirmed the death of two pupils who were bashed by a speeding vehicle on Lusaka’s Ben Bella Road in Chibolya Compound this morning.

According to Zambia Police Service deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale victims’ identities, a male and female identities are yet to be confirmed.

It is reported that the 31 year old driver Conrad Mwila of Kamwala South bashed the deceased pupils together with four other victims with his Subaru after overtaking other cars on Ben Bella Road.

Mwale told #Kalemba that the deceased victims sustained head injuries and died on the way to Kanyama Level One Hospital, where they were being taken for Medical attention.

According to eye witnesses, the driver who was suspected of being drunk was roughed up and apprehended by a mob who later surrendered him to the police after he tried to escape.

“All the pedestrians were walking along Ben Bella Road from West to east direction going to school.”

“And the accident occurred when the driver of the motor vehicle was over taking and hit all the pedestrians,” said Mwale.

The other four other pedestrians Include Benard Kambule aged 15 years old of makeni whose sustained a broken right hand, a female Anna Shaleni aged 21 years old of makeni who sustained body injuries.

Also involved was Edgar Somili aged 19 of Kanyama who sustained head and body injuries, Fostina Chama aged 15 years old of Kanyama who sustained head and body injuries.

Mwale said the driver is currently in police detention.
