Being a pastor is not a profession, it’s a calling – Pastor Washy

IN a time when churches are popping up like mushrooms after rain, with some people waking up and deciding they are pastors overnight, gospel artiste and preacher, Washikunzi Mutambo says no to that kind of drama.

Known as Pastor Washy, the artiste behind Dependable God, he stated that being a pastor is not some trendy career path you pick because your dreams of being a rapper, entrepreneur or motivational speaker didn’t work out as he says it is deeper than that.

In an interview with Power TV, he explained that being a pastor is a calling and one ought to be fully called by God to become one.

Pastor Washy who has walked both the path of music and ministry stated that many are confusing the pulpit for a platform.

He believes that the starting point isn’t Bible school or a controversial name like Bwela Tupange International Ministries when the entire congregation fits in a living room or when the only people who know your church are just in Kanyama or Matero.

He explained that during his own time in Bible school, several people dropped out halfway, not because they weren’t smart but because they came in thinking ministry was a job.

According to him, it’s not a profession you train for like nursing or teaching.

However, he clarified that even though one may be called to be a pastor, going to Bible School was cardinal.

“Going to Bible school is also important because they will teach you what you are supposed to do. The Bible says they that teach will be judged harshly because you are dealing with destinies. What qualifies one to be a pastor is a calling. You need to have a calling. Before bible school, you need to have a calling.”

“Number two, you must have someone senior to you that has a track record of walking with God. E.g. Samuel did not just become a prophet, he sat under Eli the prophet and that’s when he was called a prophet. Even the disciples did not just become apostles, they sat for three and a half years under Jesus and that’s when they began to preach,” stated
