PUPILS at Arthur Wina Basic School this afternoon became the latest victims of the ongoing gassing incidents in Lusaka.
This is despite President Edgar Lungu’s warning last Friday that the criminals would be found and dealt with sternly.
The Head of State even offered a K250,000 reward for any person who would provide information leading to the arrest of the gassing masterminds.
So far, PF national mobilisation deputy chairperson Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba aka GBM could be the one to take the reward after his claims that he knows the people behind the gassing having been privy to their plans since five years ago.
Yesterday GBM promised to report the gassers to the police as well as President Edgar Lungu.
Police have not commented on GBM’s claims.
But spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo says investigations have been launched in a report of Malicious Administering of Chemical substance which was reported at Arthur Wina School in a grade 9 class.
“This happened today between 12 00 hours and 12:30 hours today,” Katongo stated.
The gassing incidents sparked commotion at Chilenje Level 1 hospital where pupils where rushed for treatment.
More than 40 pupils were treated for gassing according to Chilenje Ward 8 councilor Patrick Mwape.
The gassing incidents began more than a month ago in Chingola on the Copperbelt before spreading to Ndola and Kitwe then went Northwestern Province.
They have been in Lusaka for the past week where residents have responded with killing suspects.
About 15 people have been killed by mobs on suspicion of gassing.
According to police the gassing incidents have also spread to Central, Northern and Eastern Provinces.
