THE Zambia Police Service have announced the arrest of two ‘spiritual assassin’s’ hired to deal with President Hakainde Hichilema.
According to a statement issued by Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the two witchdoctors identified as Jasten Mabulesse Candunde, 42, from Maravia, Mozambique and Leonard Phiri, 43 of Sinda District were hired by Nelson Banda who has since gone on the run.
Hamoonga revealed that the two wizards were arrested in an operation jointly carried out by the Department of Immigration and the Anti-Terrorism Unit.
Following the arrest, Nelson has now joined his elder brother Emmanuel and is currently on the run from police.
Hamoonga further revealed that the two wizards were found armed with assorted charms, including a live chameleon
He said the two wizards were promised K2,000,000 if they successfully completed the mission and had already pocketed a down payment of K16,500 made from an agreed advance of K30,000.
Unfortunately for them, their arrest means that their one chance to get rich will never succeed.
Hamoonga further said that the two suspects have been formally charged with Professing knowledge of witchcraft contrary to Section 5 (a) of the Witchcraft Act, Chapter 90 of the Laws of Zambia, Possession of charms – Section 11 (2) of the Witchcraft Act, Chapter 90 of the Laws of Zambia and also the Cruelty to wild animals contrary to Section 80 of the Zambia Wildlife Act, No. 14 of 2015.
He added that the duo is currently in police custody and will be appearing in court soon.
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” Hamoonga stated.
Further, Hamoonga stated that Investigations are ongoing, and the police are actively pursuing the fugitive Banda brother, Nelson.
