‘Sniper’ Mwale’s gold tooth glitters with wild smile as promotion calls

WITH the whole nation still celebrating his thunderous punches, Zambia’s own boxing cop, David ‘Sniper’ Mwale has now received a different kind of blow, this time not to his face, but right on his collar as he walked away with a promotion.

Mwale, who last Friday night floored Ghana’s Michael Decardi Nelson in a thrilling 12-round contest at the New Government Complex to win the prestigious World Boxing Council (WBC) Bantamweight World Title, has now been promoted from the rank of Sergeant to Inspector in the Zambia Police Service.

The ‘Sniper’ was all smiles as Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba proudly promoted him yesterday from Sergeant to Inspector, decorating his shoulders as cameras flashed.

“His victory is a historic triumph that has made the Zambia Police Service and the entire nation proud,” said Musamba, as he pinned the new rank on the boxing champion’s uniform.

His win makes him the first male Zambian boxer to clinch a WBC world title since the late Lottie Mwale in 1990, breaking the record of decades.

Meanwhile, Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions manager Christopher Malunga also saluted the police for backing officer-turned-world-champion, Mwale’s victory.

He said the victory is a shining example to young people that nothing beats hard work.

“We are grateful to the Police High Command for supporting our boxer. I can assure you that the boy is going very far with the support that the Police has been giving us,” said Malunga.
