The 22-year-old Zambia National Service Staff Sergeant dominated the race, showcasing his trademark power and determination to cross the finish line ahead of a strong field of international competitors.
The victory comes just weeks after Samukonga was ranked Africa’s number one and the second-fastest 400m runner in the world by World Athletics, with only Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith ahead of him.
Samukonga’s latest win adds to an already impressive career that includes a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, gold at the 2024 All Africa Games, and a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where he clocked a personal best of 43.74 seconds.
Reacting to his win on his official Facebook page after the race, Samukonga said he was pleased with his performance and is now focused on the upcoming World Championships.
“Today’s race was a testament to hard work and determination. Every step, every breath and every heartbeat counted. I’m proud of my performance and grateful for the support that pushed me to give it my all. On to the next challenge,” wrote Samukonga..
