LUSAKA residents are once again gearing up to hit the streets on September 27 as Manica University prepares to host the 2025 Marathon to promote health, fitness and wellness across the city.
The marathon, which will feature 5km, 10km, and 21km categories, is expected to attract over 500 participants, including students, corporate teams, and members of the public.
Organisers said the event is designed to encourage Zambians to embrace an active lifestyle and make fitness a daily habit.
According to the University’s head of marketing and advocacy Sarah Sang’andu, the marathon is part of a long-term plan to make it an annual tradition, attracting both local and international runners.
“The marathon is not only a sporting event, it also supports social and educational causes. It reflects Manica University’s values of building a strong community, inspiring young people to pursue education, and promoting health awareness,” Sang’andu told #Kalemba.
The event will see runners supported by medical teams, ambulances, water stations, and marshals stationed along all routes.
The Zambia Police Service and Lusaka City Council will oversee traffic management, with selected roads temporarily closed to ensure participants’ safety.
Local businesses are also expected to benefit from increased activity as participants and supporters flood the streets.
The 10km race will see K3,000 for first place, K2,000 for second, and K1,000 for third, while the 5km walk will award a gold trophy.
All participants will receive branded T-shirts, race bibs, medals and refreshments, while corporate teams will also get recognition in promotional materials.
The university called on Zambians of all ages to join the event as runners, volunteers, or spectators as a way of promoting fitness.
